“The Wall” Feener took over. He blocked a total of 6 shots in the three
games and would not let his team lose. The final was a rematch of the
opening game with Stanford Landslide and ended in a 0-0 tie. Once again
Feener led the way while the Placer strikers were nearly perfect. Ude
Moreno made the game winning shot to make it 4-3 and the hard fought

July 28, 2008 - US Club Soccer
National Championship Update - The Placer United 93
Gold, U16 girls are advancing to the US Club Soccer National
Championship final. It’s been an incredible two days for the 93 Gold.
They are in Virginia Beach, Virginia competing in the National
Championships, Super Group. Placer advanced to the National Championship
after winning the Regionals in Modesto.
The girls have faced two teams from New Jersey. Both teams won their
respective regional championships. In their first game the G93 beat the
Twin County Crew 1-0. In their second game the girls faced Montclair
United. The Montclair Thunderbolts are ranked 10th in the Nation.
Placer United faced the wind in the first half. Coach Ron Benjamin had
the girls play a low pressure, defensive first half. This was clearly
frustrating the high powered offense of the Montclair Thunderbolts.
Placer held on playing impenetrable defense and attacking as
opportunities presented themselves.
In the second half, with the wind at their backs, Ron put the girls on
the attack. The game really opened up with heart stopping scoring
opportunities from both teams. With eight minutes to go, Placer United
scored. Ron Benjamin put the girls back into low pressure to protect the
lead.
Montclair is not the kind of team to give up and they went on the
attack. The G93 defense had to dig deep and find the strength to win.
They did. Although Placer United still faces the Bridlemile Daredevils
from Oregon tomorrow, they have mathematically already advanced to the
finals.
They play Bridlemile tomorrow at 8 am EDT and the finals on Tuesday at 8
am EDT. Follow along at

June 25, 2008 - 96 Boys Black Cal Cup
Finalists – Placer’s
96 Boys Black team survived stiff competition, plus extreme heat last
weekend to reach the finals of the California Cup Tournament. They
battled the ACC Mavericks Eagles into overtime before falling 3-2 in the
championship game. After playing two games Friday, the Placer boys had
to come back on Saturday in 100+ degree heat to finish bracket play and
qualify for the semi-finals. With a few of the players suffering
heat-related issues, Placer earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Elk
Grove to secure a spot in the final. Sunday morning’s final started
ominously with Placer quickly falling behind 2-0. But just as quickly
they battled back to a 2-2 tie at the half. After a back-and-forth 30
minutes, the second half ended tied 2-2 to send the game into overtime.
Although the team just missed the championship, the team earned the
respect of many area teams and sent the message that the Placer 96 Boys
Black team is a force to be reckoned with!
