Ten Placer United Teams Travelled to San Diego for soccerloco Surf College Cup, Nomads College Showcase and Surf Thanksgiving Tournament. The U17 Boys Red Win soccerloco Surf College Cup, Two Other Teams Reach Quarter-Finals of Nomads Showcase and Surf Thanksgiving Tournaments
What a weekend of soccer for Placer United Soccer Club! Ten teams travelled down to sunny San Diego to compete against the nation’s best teams with over 400 college coaches in attendance at soccerloco Surf College Cup, Nomads Showcase and Surf Thanksgiving Tournament.
At soccerloco Surf College Cup, the U17 Boys Red outlasted Santa Monica in the final in overtime to bring home the coveted trophy. The team ran off five consecutive wins to claim the title. In game one, the boys had a 4-3 victory over Sac United. In game two, the boys played Futeca from Guatemala and came out victorious, 2-1. In game three, the boys beat LA Premier by the same score, 2-1. In Sunday’s semi-final match, the boys had a 1-0 victory over Diablo FC. In the final, the boys went down 1-0 but clawed their way back to tie the game at 1-1 by the end of regulation. After the two full overtime periods, the boys came out victorious with a 2-1 victory over Santa Monica.
The U16 Girls Red and U18 Girls Red teams were also at soccerloco Surf College Cup. The U18 had some very stiff competition in the Super group. The girls played very well but came up short in back to back 1-0 losses versus West Coast FC and the current National Champion, Fram from Los Angeles. In game three, the girls lost 0-2 to the Legends. The Legends then went on to win the Cup. The U16 started out strong with a 1-0 win over Manitoba from Canada. In game two, the girls lost 1-0 to Heat FC in a back and forth match. In game three, the girls lost to PAC Northwest.
At the Nomads College Showcase, the U15 Boys Red, U16 Boys Red, U17 Boys White and U18 Boys Red went up against some tough competition. The U15 made it all of the way to the quarter-finals. They opened with a 1-0 win over SF Bay City and followed up with a 1-1 draw versus the Legends, the eventual champion. In game three, the boys lost 0-2 to Snohomish of Washington, but their results were good enough to get into the quarters. In game four, the boys lost a heartbreaker 1-0 to PCSC. The U16 went 1-1-1 for the weekend. They opened with a 2-1 loss to RSL of Utah but then rebounded with a 0-0 draw with Diablo FC. In game three, the boys beat Encinitas 2-0. The U17 won their first two games of the tournament. They defeated Barcelona 2-1 and Riverside 4-3. In game three, the boys came up short in a 2-0 loss to Valparaiso. The U18 had a rough start to the showcase, losing to Roadrunner United. In game two, the boys played the group winner, Xolos USA, in a tightly contested battle, but came up a bit short, 3-2. In game three, the boys rebounded with a convincing 4-0 win over the Utah Glory.
At Surf Thanksgiving Tournament, the U13 Girls Red, U14 Girls Red and U15 Girls Red competed against some top teams. The U14 reached the Quarter-finals after winning two and losing one. In game one, the girls beat West Coast FC 2-1. In game two, the girls lost in extra time 1-0 to Oceanside. In a must win game three, the girls defeated the Exiles from Los Angeles, 2-1 in a thrilling come from behind win to advance to the next round. In the quarters, the girls put on a dominating display, outshooting United FC, but came out on the short end, 1-0. The U15 opened up with a 1-1 draw versus the Legends. In game two, the girls had a convincing 3-1 victory over Inland Empire Surf. The girls only needed a draw to win the group and faced a very talented Downtown Las Vegas group. The girls came up short 4-2. The Las Vegas team ended up winning the tournament. The U13 played a very attractive style of soccer all weekend and went 1-1-1. In game one, the girls drew 0-0 with the Rebels. In game two, the girls saw the Irvine Slammers, the #1 ranked team in Southern California (formerly FC Blades). In a back and forth match, the girls came up short 3-2. In game three, the girls defeated the Irvine Strikers, 3-1 in a dominating performance.
